Delft and Rotterdam are rail neighbours with opposite stay logic: In Delft gives 12 minutes by train from Rotterdam, with the Markt a five-minute walk from Delft station; Rotterdam only works when its districts are connected.

Delft
Delft is a convincing day trip, but a local night changes the pace: early canals, a quiet evening and room to separate craft, history and one neighbouring destination.

01
Rotterdam wins when
Modern architecture and the port landscape are the anchor.
More than one district gets its own evening.
Late evenings matter: NS's every-night night train runs from Rotterdam, while its night-train page does not list Delft.
02
Delft wins when
Oude Delft, the Markt and the east core fill an early morning and a quiet evening; the Markt is a five-minute walk from the station.
Rotterdam and The Hague are separate day blocks rather than nightly returns.
You want to leave a compact centre on foot and come back the same way.
03
Do not commute for its own sake
The 12-minute train makes either city a day trip from the other. That is exactly why the night must earn its place: sleep where the evening belongs and give the other city a full day. If you sleep in Delft after an evening in Rotterdam, check the last train for your date; NS's night-train page lists Rotterdam and The Hague HS, not Delft.
04
Clear data boundary
Rotterdam figures on this site are CBS hotel-scope municipality totals; Delft demand is qualified only at the wider CBS geography. Scale is context, not a ranking, and says nothing about availability or price.
