Stay orientation
Four areas, one deliberate base decision
Schematic decision map — not a street or route map.
MiddelburgFor historic city, rail and an urban evening on Walcheren.
VlissingenFor a maritime city and boulevard, with rail as practical access.
Domburg and coastFor beach and dunes; check bus, bike and seasonal logistics.
Other Zeeland islandsFor landscape and quiet; treat each as its own route, not a quick add-on.
Rail mainly serves the line through Zuid-Beveland to Walcheren; NS says every Zeeland station has two trains an hour and the larger ones three. Pedestrians and cyclists can take the Westerschelde Ferry between Vlissingen and Breskens, and the small Zeeuwse Pontjes sail from May to September. Bus, bike and car shape the rest; recheck every route and ferry live.
Recheck the live journey planner, engineering work and the final connection shortly before travel; timetables and access are not fixed editorial facts.

Plan the morning and evening
First block
Sleep in Middelburg for the historic town and an urban evening, or in Vlissingen for the boulevard; both sit on the railway, so a car-free stay starts here.
Second block
Give the coast its own day from a Walcheren base, or sleep in Domburg when beach and dunes are the reason; treat other Zeeland islands as a separate trip with its own crossing or bus.
04
Use it as a base — but not by default
Middelburg and Vlissingen can share one Walcheren stay; coastal villages call for another base. Choose one subregion per short trip instead of promising the whole province.
